Is there significance in the above date? Somebody said it's the last time our calendar will read this way for 1000 years, but I don't have the math cred to check that out. A thousand years? What about a hundred years from now? Won't October 10, 2110 also be known as 10/10/10?
Why am I thinking about this stuff?
Well, today's date does have some significance in my current life, so that's good enough. Today, we begin principle filming of A Modest Suggestion, the little indie flick which I was cast in a while back. We actually began work on the project last week, spending three days in rehearsal mode. It was invaluable work, as the six actors involved with the piece attempted to make some comic sense of the script, which is 100 pages of short, choppy dialogue.
We are doing our work on a small set which seems to have been converted from the backroom of a recording studio. Every day, I crawl out of bed at the ungodly hour of 5:30 AM in order to hit the road before 7. The studio is located waaaaaaaaaay out in the boonies of rural Maryland, but the traffic that time of day seems to be going in the opposite direction, so I haven't had much trouble. And some of the scenery is pretty swell, with lots of trees just getting ready to change color.
A Modest Suggestion treats its theme of genocide with a whacked out sense of humor, which will either be a hoot, or will bring shudders from the audience. We'll have to wait and see on that one. Our Powers That Be are all Jewish, so there's nothing anti-Semitic going on here; its a bit unusual to hear everyone conversing in Hebrew on the set. John Waters's Pecker was never like this.
More as it develops, for now, Happy 10/10/10, for whatever significance that holds...
